Pier B, a brand new passenger terminal section of more than 10 000 square meters adjoining Terminal 2B, was inaugurated today at Budapest Airport. Going forward, the facility will be used to handle non-Schengen flights, including the wide body aircraft flying intercontinental long haul routes to North America, China and the Persian Gulf.

The new pier adjoining Terminal 2B at Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport is ready to handle flights as of today. The new passenger traffic facility of more than 10 000 square meters will be installed into operation gradually, thus expanding the capacity of the airport.

NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen and Hungarian Defence Minister Csaba Hende laid the cornerstone for a new Heavy Airlift Wing hangar complex on the air base of Pápa in north-west Hungary.

"Budapest Airport registered an amazing 8.9% traffic increase last year and recorded an all-time high of 8,920,653 passengers. Thus the 2007 record of 8.6 million has been surpassed by 320,000 passengers arriving and departing from the terminals of Budapest Airport.

Mr Melles has been the Country Manager in Hungary for Air France KLM since August 2009. Originally from Székesfehérvár, he was born on 5 January, and attended the Teleki Blanka Gimnazium until 1998. He went on to read Business Studies at the International Business School in Budapest. He then starting his fast-track career with Nestle in the summer of 2002.
